So, I started this blog basically to document the events of the life with a broken Kidney & document the transplant process, when it happens.
I couldn't decide what my first post ought to be...I certainly didn't want it to be a complaining post (although I try super hard to to complain about our situation...I believe it could be way worse and I'm grateful for what it is but I do still complain sometimes). So I decided it'd be a post of gratitude.
So THANK YOU to all the people who have supported us since the day Dustin was admitted to TMC. The concern and support people have shown has been pretty amazing.
So everyone knows how the rumors fly in Thatcher so quickly. We hadn't even been admitted to the hospital with an official diagnoses and people were already offering their Kidney. They were people I knew well, people I didn't know all that well, people I didn't really know at all. It was crazy...in a good way. Anyway, so there was a certain couple that went way above. They had heard through the crazy rumors about Dustin...but they didn't hear the story right. They heard that he needed a kidney right away or he'd die and that no one in our family was a match. This couple, which have a few small children, sat down and talked it over and decided they would both be tested. They called my mom and told her what they had heard and said they were ready to go to Tucson immediately to undergo testing. They just needed to know where to go. My mom was shocked, but let them know that Dustin would be ok for now and that testing hadn't started yet. When she told me, I couldn't believe it! I know them, but are not good friends. They were willing to put it all on the line to save him. I was literally amazed.
It seems like almost any time I am out and about and I run into someone I haven't seen for awhile they ALWAYS ask how Dustin is doing. I know it's such a small little thing, but it really means a lot to me. Heck, even people I see all the time ask me. Just the other day my Brother in law, Brandon, called me to ask me about something else, but the first question he asked was "Is there an answer on Mandy" since he knew she was getting tested. I see him all the time, yet it was still the first thing he asked. I guess it just shows that people are thinking of Dustin and I appreciate that.
So, thank you for not only thinking of Dustin, but letting us know that you are. It's the "letting us know" part that really helps us to stay positive. :)
